A different way to learn about Edinburgh’s history is to visit the Edinburgh Dungeon located in the heart of the city. Live actors will take you on a journey and tell you all about the city’s past through story telling & amazing special effects. The tour lasts 80 minutes and includes 2 underground rides.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh. The palace showcases both elements from the Scottish history and today’s use from the Royal Family. The Queen comes every year to carry out official duties during Holyrood week which takes place from the end of June to the beginning of July. Holyroodhouse is also associated with some of Scotland’s most iconic figures such as Mary, Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie. Tickets include an audio guide.
Beneath the city’s South Bridge hides a world you would never guess excited. Discover a series of 19 hidden arches which became Edinburgh’s first commercial street. Back in the 18th century, the vaults were used by local tradesmen as workshops and storage spaces. Later on, they became home to the homeless and various criminal activities.
